Israeli-Arab Judge Salim Joubran to chair Central Elections Committee

Salim Joubran, the first Arab citizen in Israel to be appointed to a permanent seat on the Supreme Court will take up a similarly ground breaking position as the chair of the Central Elections Committee.

He replaces Elyakim Rubenstein in the role on the committee which oversees the authorisation of party lists running for the Knesset and election financing, as well as the publication and any appeals of election results.

The Supreme Court Justice’s first task will be to oversee the local authority elections in October.
